    Civil War Encampment with the 38th North Carolina Infantry of 1862

    HUNTERSVILLE, NC: On February 18 from 9:30 AM – 5 PM, Historic Rural Hill is honored to host the 38th North Carolina Infantry of 1862 for an historic encampment and company drill. This special event is free and open to all. Bring the kids for their own special drilling experience! Rural Hill docents will also be on hand to share stories and skills such as open hearth cooking, woodworking, animal feedings, fiber spinning, and blacksmithing.

    This science fair involves students in grades 1-12 who represent public, private and home schools located in Cherokee, Chester, Lancaster, Spartanburg, Union and York Counties.   • "De Tocqueville & Beaumont, Democracy in America", a Chautauqua discussion Led by Chautauqua Artistic Director George Frein and Asst. Artistic Director Larry Bounds. In 1831 two of America's most famous travelers came to America to learn the secret of a new world where democracy and equality were supposed to rule. Their observations made almost 200 years ago are surprisingly accurate today. In the June Festival George will perform as Carl Jung and Larry as Winston Churchill.     Several times a year YMCA Camp Greenville offers a Home School Adventure Day that allows Home School Families to come together at our beautiful 1600 acre facility atop the Blue Ridge Mountains. We offer hands on educational opportunities and adventure based activities such as pond ecology, archery, learning about and holding the reptiles in our Animal Center, or a mountain hike to our 140ft waterfall Rainbow Falls, just to name a few.

    A scholar of Jewish history, a once young Israeli soldier and a Greenville actress who has performed as Golda Meir exchange personal observations of Golda Meir. As a young girl, Golda Meir emigrated from America from Russia. As a young married woman, she emigrated to Israel. As Prime Minister of Israel, she kept the ties between American and Israel strong. Join an audience that loves talking back to History.
